If you’ve been around here for a while, you know that I’m always talking about blogging for wedding vendors. As a copywriter specifically for wedding pros, it’s my job to know what marketing strategies are the most effective for wedding vendors. I’ve said it once and I’ll say it a million times. Blogging.
I’m not going to take the space here to talk about why I believe so strongly in blogging for wedding vendors. You can read all about that in this blog. Instead, I’m going to narrow down some of the best blogging tips for wedding vendors who are serious about receiving more inquiries from people they actually want to work with.
Most wedding vendors start blogging because it’s the most reliable way to boost your SEO. (Quick recap! SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization and is the #1 way you get found in search results!) So if you want to climb the rankings and start building your authority on Google, you need to blog.
But you can’t just throw a blog up on your website and hope it helps. You’ve got to blog consistently. My rule of thumb is at least two times per month. This shows Google that your website is active, and makes sure Google indexes your website to help you land in the most relevant searches. It often helps if you plan your blog content in advance! Check out the Natty Writes Blog, she’s the queen of quarterly blog content planning.
While we’re on the topic of SEO, one of the best blogging tips I can give you is to pick one (1) main keyphrase. Your keyword (or keyphrase) doesn’t need to show up in every sentence. In fact, it shouldn’t. If you’re over-using your keyword, Google thinks you’re “keyword stuffing” and doesn’t rank that content in search results.
Instead, find a keyword that you can weave naturally into your content and pop it in maybe three or four times. Take this blog, for example! My target keyphrase is “blogging for wedding vendors.” You’ll see it in the title and a few more times throughout this piece. But it’s never forced, and it’s not overused.
Your blog doesn’t have to be a novel. But at the same time, don’t shy away from long-form content! Blogs have two purposes. First and foremost, to educate your audience. And then you can worry about Google. If you’re only writing blogs for a search engine, you’ll disappoint and drive away the real humans who want to learn from you! I wrote a whole post about writing SEO blogs that are still fun to read, check it out here.
So figure out the main purpose of your blog. What do you want your audience to takway from it? If you can share the necessary information in 300 words, amazing! Leave it at that. But if you truly want to share an in-depth look at wedding planning, or developing film, or sourcing local flowers for your wedding, go for it! There is no minimum or maximum length requirement for your blog.
Photos are an especially important part of blogging for wedding vendors! Photos showcase your work, showing your readers that you know your stuff. When you blog about real weddings, you can include a selection of photos from that wedding that really demonstrate your abilities. Plus, they also help break up the text and make your blog more reader-friendly. Nobody wants to read a wall of text.
Photos can also help you land in visually-based searches. Use alt-text to describe your image (remember, Alt-text’s first purpose is to make your image more accessible). But you can also sprinkle your main keyword into your alt-text to rank in the “Images” tab of search results.
Meta descriptions are the little blurb that pops up under the title of a web page in search results. They should explain your blog post and include a call to action, like “learn more” or “read the blog.” Keep your meta description between 150-160 characters. A reader should be able to read the whole thing without it getting cut off. This is another great place to include your keyword, too!
You know how we talk about Google indexing your website? Well, another way Google tells if you are a reliable source of information is by tracking your links. A strong blog post will have a number of internal (meaning, they link to other pages of your own website) and outbound (linking to websites that are NOT yours) links. These links build your reliability and authority in Google’s eyes, which helps you rank higher in search results!
Links are a really great way to give your readers additional information. As someone who deeply values community over competition, my blogs are full of links directing you to other resources that I have found helpful in my copywriting journey. And I also always include a link to my services and contact page, because that is the point of these blogs, after all. Blogging drives traffic to your website and helps you connect with your ideal client. That’s why I will never shut up about how valuable blogging is for wedding vendors.
Blogging takes a lot of time and energy, I get that. Honestly, that’s why most business owners don’t do it. Because you started your business because you love your craft – whether that’s creating events or baking cakes! You didn’t start it because you wanted to get really into marketing trends, or grow a social media following, or – God forbid – start a blog.
But now you’re in it, and you’re realizing just how involved this business owner thing is. That’s why I started J. Flynn Copywriting! Because most people hate writing, and I love it. Most people hate the idea of writing and posting a few blogs per month. I seriously enjoy it. And now, I’m offering a completely done-for-you blogging service! All you need to do is give me some photos of a recent wedding, and I will write your blog (SEO included!), cull your images, and schedule your blogs – like clockwork.
If that sounds even remotely interesting to you, I would love to chat. Fill out the inquiry form and we’ll schedule a call to discuss all things copywriting and blogging for wedding vendors like you!
