Chances are, you’re a wedding photographer, planner, or florist who just wants to create art. You want to compose incredible, memorable events. But you don’t want to market yourself 24/7. You don’t want to be filming every second of your day to post it online, and frankly, you find social media exhausting. 

Me too. This is why I found another way – another way to promote my services, connect with my dream clients, and ultimately, make more money. And it doesn’t require selling my soul to Mark Zuckerberg.

Yup. Blogging. Blogging is my favorite way to drive traffic to my website. 

“But wait!” You might say. “What about social media? Isn’t that the best way to promote your business in 2026?” 

Oh, I am SO glad you asked. Because my hot take is no, social media is NOT the best, most effective, or easiest way to promote your wedding business. 

So… is Social Media Bad for My Wedding Business? 

Nope, not at all! Hear me out. I am not against social media. I use it, and I use it effectively (all thanks to my social media coach, Ariel). 

I actually enjoy Instagram. It has helped me connect with so many like-minded business owners and introduced me to some of my best business buddies. I have found inspiration, learned a ton, and seen more pretty pictures than I can count. (If you want to see some of my pretty pictures, give me a follow!) 

While I’m grateful for the community I’ve found online, I find social media wildly time-consuming. And distracting 😅. And honestly, kinda discouraging sometimes. 

Granted, those could be my personal flaws. But I’m not too worried about it, because I found a better way. 

Settling the Blogging vs Social Media Debate: Why Blogging is Better for Your Wedding Business

Reason #1: The shelf life of a blog is significantly longer than the shelf life of a social media post 

When I say “Shelf Life,” I’m talking about how long your content is viewed and engaged with before it is sucked into the internet black hole. Let me tell ya, it is not long. 

Specifically on Instagram, your post has 48 hours of being shown on your followers’ feeds. Two days! That’s all you have to reach, impact, and interact with your audience. Twitter, Facebook, TikTok, and LinkedIn have even less.  

This means that to stay engaged with your audience, you need to post every two days at least. Or else you fall off the edge of the internet and your content stops showing up in front of the people you’re trying to reach. 

Okay, so what about blogs? 

The shelf life of a blog post is a whopping TWO YEARS. While your Instagram posts disappear after two days, your blog posts can continue driving traffic for two years. This means that blog posts have the HIGHEST return on investment out of any of your content. Plus, blogs help increase traffic, build trust, and boost your website’s domain authority. 

(Okay, I’m done using italics, I promise).

Let’s be real with each other. As business owners, we do not have a ton of time to sit around. So when you have time to create solid, educational content, where are you going to put it? On social media, where it will disappear in less than two days? Or on a blog, where you can continue to gain traffic for up to two years? 

Reason #2: Blogging is more reliable than social media platforms 

Who remembers when Meta shut down? 🙋🏻‍♀️

Or, perhaps, when Meta randomly deleted hundreds of accounts? 🙋🏻‍♀️

Or the more mundane, but still frustrating, glitches when your post simply refuses to upload? 🙋🏻‍♀️

Listen, I’m not saying blogging is disaster-proof. But I am saying that it is far more reliable than social media. 

When you post a blog to your website, you own that content. When you post something on social media, it can be removed at any time, for any reason. You no longer have any control over what you posted, who sees it, or where it goes. 

Plus, the Instagram algorithm changes all the time. It is constantly developing, and the types of content that were favored last week may be obsolete next week. It can feel impossible to keep up with the changes. 

Blogging is more reliable, consistent, and predictable. And it works. While posting a certain trend might go viral, it also might get less than 500 views. Meanwhile, your blog won’t reach 20k people in a few hours. But it will slowly and steadily attract people who are searching for what you offer. 

Check out these statistics from one of my clients! I started posting two blogs per month on her website. After only 3 months, her website traffic more than doubled. 

Sure, she isn’t reaching 20,000 strangers on the Internet. But she is showing up in searches made by her ideal client. And we didn’t do anything crazy to make this happen. We talked about her goals, researched relevant keywords, and posted consistent, educational blog posts. And then we watched her business grow! 

Reason #3: Blogs work while you sleep 

This is my favorite part about blogs. You can post them and then go to bed (I love bed). 

You don’t need to do anything to boost its visibility once it’s posted. While I encourage you to share your blog posts on social media and your email list, blogging doesn’t require you to be online 24/7. 

You can turn your laptop off and go hang out with your friends. You can spend the rest of the day playing with your kids. You can put on a movie and forget all about it. Your blog will keep working for you. Because when it comes to running a business… anything that can save you time and energy is worth investing in.
