I'm a brand voice strategist and copywriter for wedding pros who are ready to feel confident in their online presence & excited about their business again.
Nothing exists in a vacuum. And this is especially true when it comes to marketing your wedding business. Part of being an SEO copywriter for wedding pros is looking at the industry as a whole and seeing how all the pieces work together.
And in the light of the Knot and Zola merger, I’ve been thinking a lot about the benefit (and occasional detriment) of joining a wedding vendor directory. Keep reading to learn why joining a directory can still benefit your business—plus 7 wedding vendor directories that are NOT owned by The Knot!
As of October 2026, Knot Worldwide has recently acquired Zola. While this might not seem like big news on the surface, it’s making some serious waves in the industry.
Knot Worldwide is currently in the midst of a class action lawsuit. Three previous employees are accusing the global wedding company of defrauding small business owners and delivering fake or spam leads to vendors who pay for a spot on its directory.
Meanwhile, Zola has been known as the antithesis to The Knot, winning vendors over through their price transparency and promise of “No Fake Leads—Ever.”
With Zola under the Knot Worldwide’s ownership, vendors are concerned that Zola will begin to follow in the Knot’s (allegedly) fraudulent footsteps.
With Knot Worldwide buying up a bunch of wedding businesses (they also own WeddingWire, WeddingPro, and Hitched, by the way), wedding vendors are scrambling for another way to gain visibility online.
With all the news circling around The Knot and Zola Merger, it’s tempting to just quit wedding vendor directories altogether. I get it! It can be confusing and frustrating to figure out where and how to advertise your business.
But having a space on local directories is really good for your business. Trust me, I wouldn’t be writing this if I didn’t think it would help you!
First of all, these directories are a great resource for local couples. The whole point of directories is to consolidate the information for couples and give them an easier way to sort through their vendors.
But as an SEO specialist, I don’t even view this as the biggest benefit.
The true benefit of joining wedding vendor directories is the authority it gives your website.
See, when couples search for “Wedding Planners in [City]” Google and AI engines have to dig through thousands of websites that match that search criteria. But only a handful of websites make it into the top results. The websites that make the cut are the ones that Google and AI considers to be trustworthy. (This is especially true for AI engines!)
The best way to show search engines that you’re a trustworthy resource is to show up in multiple online spaces with the same information (that part is important).
You can’t have your business name listed one way on Instagram, another way on your website, and another way on a directory. You’ve got to provide consistent information to convince search engines that you’re a real, active, and authoritative business. And the more places search engines can find your information, the more likely you are to show up in those top search results.
Hence, the value of joining wedding vendor directories.
But I sure as hell don’t want you to join a directory that will cost you $$$ and deliver very little, so here are a few trustworthy wedding vendor directories not owned by Knot Worldwide!

A lot of these directories have made a national name for themselves. But don’t overlook local directories, either! Most of the time, the search for wedding vendors begins with a vague, location based search. And local directories are among the first things to show up in those kinds of searches.
These can be state-wide, regional, or even town-specific. Not every state has one, but it’s absolutely worth seeing if yours does and connecting with the local businesses that run it!
Examples:
Overall, wedding vendor directories are a great way to increase your website’s authority, trustworthiness, and visibility. But if your website isn’t pulling its weight, all your advertising on these directories isn’t going to work as well as it should.
The goal is for all of these directories to point back to your website. But once they get there, are they getting a taste of who you are? Of how you’re different from your competitors? Does your website give them any reason to say, “Yes! This is the vendor I’ve been looking for!”
If not, it might be time to revamp your website so that you truly stand out amongst your competitors. When couples land on your site, we want them to immediately think, “YEP! This is who I want to hire.”
My Custom Website Copy package includes a deep dive into your brand voice, ideal audience, and what makes you unique. Then, you get a minimum of five search engine optimized website pages that build connection, explain your value, and gently guide couples to inquire with you.
Because couples might find you through wedding vendor directories. But you better believe they’re going to stalk your website before they inquire. Having strategic, intentional website copy ensures that when they land on your website, they fall even more in love with you than they did on the directory. It’s a one-two punch that builds your authority, credibility, and trustworthiness.
